ANTARCTICA LAND FOR ALL

THE CONTINENT

WITHOUT BORDERS

Even though it is known that several expeditions had been on Southern Ocean waters searching for new territories and natural resources, the discovery of the Antarctic Continent is historically attributed to Russian commander Thaddeus Bellingshausen only in 1821.

ANTARCTIC

NATURAL RESOURCES

Due to its strategic location and natural resources, Antarctica soon sparked the interest of several countries, which started their explorations and established scientific stations and military bases as actual colonization would be virtually impossible, due to extreme weather conditions and difficult human survival.

PROTECTED

HERITAGE

In 1959, as conflict became imminent, including threats related to use for nuclear waste deposit, the Antarctic Treaty was signed by 12 nations, making Antarctica a neuter continent dedicated to science, free of any exploitation.

Any political decisions involving the territory depend on the signatories of the Treaty, and today, the continental space of Antarctica is occupied by scientific stations from 29 countries with voting rights, dedicated to scientific investigations of worldwide interest, such as its biodiversity, climatic changes, and their consequences.

The Frozen Continent has become a natural reserve used exclusively for peaceful purposes, science, and worldwide cooperation. Today, Antarctica is a clear example that what is best for an individual is also reflected in what is best for the planet.

A land for all!
